"Fragments of Modernity" at Fijewski Gallery

Dariusz Madejski - a rising polish artist

On September 21, 2023 at 7pm, Fijewski's Gallery experienced an extraordinary artistic event. This evening an exhibition "Fragments of Modernity" by Dariusz Madejski was opened, presenting fascinating sculptures which won acclaim in the art world over the last three years.

Dariusz Madejski, born and raised in Kielce is an artist with an unique vision which he shaped at State Secondary School of Fine Arts and at the Faculty Fine Arts at the Świętokrzyska Academy. His works are a deep exploration of human's anatomy and human's relationships with the world around.

Within the scope of the "Fragments of Modernity" exhibition, Madejski presented over 20 unique works, using various materials, such as brass, aluminum, bronze and steel.

The exhibition puts emphasis on works created over the last three years and shows Madejski's artistic evolution. Works are divided in two main groups, where first one refers to classicism, especially to bronze Greek sculptures and includes elegant women's busts, men' torsos, hieratic faces and body parts. However, Madejski pushes the limits of imitation, taking individual body parts out of context and placing them on structures, creating unique works, such as "Siesta".

Second group explores the artist's innovative approach to form, which can be seen in works, such as "Freedom", “Verve” and “Symetria”. These sculptures depict naked female figures who seem to defy gravity, exuding passion and vitality. This is a clear departure from classic patterns, which makes these works extremely provocative and full of emotions.

All sculptures avoid representing specific figures, encouraging universal understanding of the human experience. Madejski purposely leaves some facial features unfinished, inspiring viewers to make their own interpretations.

Alessandra Altieri is a respected art historian and also a curator of the exhibition. She emphasizes that Madejski’s works encourage reflection on the human figure and its relationship with the surrounding world. The exhibition is an unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty and creativity of an rising Polish artist who combines in his own works of the tradition of classical art with the

innovative spirit of contemporary art.

Dariusz Madejski describes his sculptures as a mission, everyday struggle with matter and idea, also, an oasis of serenity and reflection.

His works, set in neoclassicism and modernity, draw from a wide range of materials, creating unique works that make us reflect on our contemporaries' social challenges and individual identity.
